444: Diary of a Black Woman” is a personal piece through which I explore the complexity of being a dark-skinned Black woman in today’s political and social climate. Acting as an open invitation, I allow myself to surrender to the provocative, dehumanizing, and egregious narratives I grew up hearing about darker-skinned Black women, and I wrestle my way toward liberation. In this work, I encourage myself to take up space and rewrite my story—one that speaks truth, integrity, and power into my experience as a Black woman.
