3 of Cups: Culinary and Movement residency
“3 of Cups”
A Culinary and Movement residency with interdisciplined artist dominique lesleyann and mountain woman and land steward Angie Coleman.
This 7 day Culinary and Movement art residency where artists of different artistic expressions retreat to the Nevada Hills with the intention of creating sustainable and nourishing practices that will influence their artistic work and the communal impact as the next generations of leaders, healers, activists, humanitarians, and more.
this residency purpose is to support all aspirations.
it is the medicine for fear, doubt, and disbelief
and it is the answer/sign/synchronicity that i have been dreaming to share with the world
What is “3 of Cups” and what inspired you to create this residency?
In Tarot, specifically “The Melanin Intuitve Tarot Deck by Brielle Simone”, the 3 of cups is shown as 3 black femme individuals smiling, laughing, and celebrating the present moment they are in. in most tarot deck, the 3 of cups comes into your life or reading when you are building deepr social circles, friendships, partnerships, and/or celebrating accomplishment with your community. It a mirror to of our connections internally and externally, and it shows us where we find gratitude in our relationships and where we can embody the flow of the element water.
What inspired me to create this residency was a desire to have dedicated time for me and my artistic expression to flow without any inhibitions. I wanted something that was low stakes and informal. Almost like a “first rehearsal” -Artist Snowflake Arizmendi Calvert, where i could be in the process of sharing without feeling tied to a full execution. I dreamed about what the place, feeling, and experience would be like and now i am witnessing it take flight and land as something that can be shared with other artists who also desire to reconnect to practices of transmuting through the lenses of nourishment through food, movement, and celebration.
What is the mission of this residency?
“3 of cups” mission is to provide a sacred space for artists to replenish their well of self nourishment. It is a time to connect back to our practices, rituals, and the land that supported us thus far and take an even bolder step to reimagine a harmonious way of co-creating with the land, people, and artists who occupy it.
This residency is designed for artists who are interested in an informal site specific live/ work space where they are able to learn, watch, evolve, and reimagine their artistic expression. Since the main focus of the residency is nourishment, each day is designed around cultivating time and practices, learned from each other and solo time, that feeds our fire of ingenuity. I believe, how we nourish ourselves is a direct correlation to how we nourish our process. And for most artists, nourishment arrives in many ways, and this residency is determined to support everyone's internal research on the infinite ways of sustaining nourishment for the self, family, community, globally, and ancestrally.
This is an answered prayer. A calling. A reset. An act of self love and preservation.— this residency is the right step you have been waiting to take. You no longer need to sit at the cross roads or watch from the sidelines anymore. What awaits you is ready for you.
Why is community aid and support important?
As an emerging, independent, and interdisciplinary artist, I understand the importance of needing sacred space and time to reshape my artistic voice. The most influential ways I have seen evolution in my work is through cooking and sacred movement practice. (this includes, somatic stretching, yoga, Pilates, improvisation, contemporary, floor work, ritual and more). Cooking invites me to practice agency and intutitive knowing. Most of the dishes I prepare for myself, and others, is from a feeling, or song, or even just by knowing the person I am with. Cooking, allows me to practice expressing myself in an intimate way that always mirrors the intimacy in my artist/choreographic work.
As an emerging leader, I am understanding the responsibility of being able to provide artists with proper financial resources to support them in their creation process. Whether that's gathering new supplies, helping them cover room and board/gas/airline flights etc; I am inviting myself to step into this aligned responsibility of being able to afford to pay artists what they are worth and to be able to support in helping them achieve their dreams,
